This week in the UK is National Careers Week, spotlighting the importance of careers guidance for young people in support of their future career pathways.

As recruiters, our ethos surrounds helping people from new graduates to those nearing retirement with their careers, whether it be offering advice or finding their dream role. For National Careers Week, we thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to share our own career pathways as well as videos of our favourite career moment, highlighting that there is not always one linear path in the world of work.
Paul’s Career Pathway
Briefly, my career has gone 17 years of analytical roles: Location Planner (for GMAP and then GeoBusiness Solutions), GIS, and cost transformation analyst (BT Global Services). I then did 3 years at BT Global Services as a Business Director on client accounts such as Thomson Reuters and Unilever, which involved responsibility for the profit and loss and level of service in the UK on those accounts. In August 2016, Steve and I started Red Tiger Talent and the rest as they say is history.
Overall, my journey has stood me in good stead to run my own business as I have the analytical experience to help understand roles we recruit for and to deliver training, as well as the commercial and managerial experience of being able to run my own business.
Steve’s Career Pathway
It is fair to say I have had a squiggly career. My first role was as a GIS analyst for DTZ (real estate advisor), and I then moved after 18 months to work for the Rank Group in their in-house market intelligence team. After a few years there, a few colleagues and I decided to engineer an exit to set up GeoBusiness Solutions where I eventually assumed the role of Sales & Marketing Director.
GeoBusiness Solutions was then sold to MapInfo Corporation in 2005. After leaving MapInfo I worked for Deloitte for a year, working on location planning projects and retail administrations (most famously the collapse of Woolworths). I then joined CACI to head up the Property Consulting Group and supported the team’s growth from 5 to 25 people over the space of 7 years. I left CACI in June 2015 to spend more time with the family up north and pursue other interests. One of which was co-founding Bicester’s first 24-hour gym.
I then decided to set up Red Tiger Consulting which started out doing some filming and location planning consultancy. I then worked for Grant Thornton on contract for a couple of years supporting their analytics practice. In August 2016 I co-founded Red Tiger Talent with my brother Paul. We set out to be the go-to recruitment agency for Location Planning and Real Estate Research. In 2020, we also launched Red Tiger Coaching which is a collective of 4 ICF accredited Life and Business Coaches and have been growing our client base ever since.
Chloe’s Career Pathway
I graduated from the University of Leeds in June 2021 with a BA Geography degree. Despite being quite academically driven, I wasn’t too sure what career route I wanted to go down post-graduating, as I had never had one ‘dream’ career in mind. After university, I began applying for editorial roles in publishing, though I had little luck there due to the competitive nature of the industry.
I then got back in touch with my university tutors, who connected me with Red Tiger Talent as they specialise in Location Planning roles and I thought that could interest me as I studied location planning and analysis modules at university. Little did I know that this would actually lead me to finding a job with them directly, as their Research and Marketing Assistant.
This worked out better than I could have imagined, and over a year later I am just as grateful to Steve and Paul for offering me this role. I never considered marketing as a potential career path for myself as I didn’t know much about it. Now, as Research and Marketing Manager, I thoroughly enjoy both the creative and planning aspects of my role, as well as the benefits of working for a smaller, collaborative company where I’m given responsibility and the chance to be involved in wider areas of the business.
